"Did you see the video?"
"What video?"
"Bruh, they want to ban phones in school and a bunch of students went to speak at the board meeting. It got heat and they had to call the feds."
"Lemme see."
You lean in to look at his phone making sure the teacher isn't looking your way. It starts off with a girl speaking at the podium. You think you might have seen her in the halls, but you don't have any classes together. She is saying that students should be able to keep their phones for safety reasons. A guy from you Algebra class gets up and says they have a right to a phone because it is free speech.
"Phones are not covered by the First Amendment," a board member claims.
Students start yelling from the audience. Attempts to get order fail and security is called.
You hand the phone back to your friend and he says, "What are we going to do?"
"There's not much we can do."
"What do you mean? Everybody is ready to walk out of school on Tuesday."
"What are they walkin' out for?"
"In protest. They can't take our phones. If you don't go, you'll be the only one left in school."
<h1>You Choose</h1>
This is dumb. I don't care what everyone is doing. I haven't heard a [[good argument|nohasty]] either way.
If everyone is going to walk out, then they must have a [[point|yeshasty]]."Why won't you go? I mean I understand that just because everyone agrees doesn't actually mean it is right, but can't you tell that they are trying to keep us from knowing the truth. They already control what we see on the Chromebooks. They are trying to control the flow of information, so we only know what they tell us. It is government mind conrol."
<h1>You Choose</h1>
Your friend [[makes sense|yeseither]]. The teachers are always arguing with you about stuff you saw on IG. Maybe there is more to this phone thing than you thought.
The walk out seemed crazy to begin with but now your friend is making this giant [[leap|noeither]] in logic about mind control.
"Good choice. It's gonna be lit, and to be honest you can tell that they are trying to keep us from knowing the truth. They alreayd control what we see on the Chromebooks. They are trying to control the flow of information, so we only know what they tell us. It is government mind control."

You were cool with the walk out, but this talk about mind control is too big of a [[leap|noeither]].
<<set $populum to 1>>"Bruh, you still not gettin' it. You are either with the students or you are work for the them." Your friend subtley points at the teacher helping a student on the other side of the room.
<h1>You Choose</h1>
I get it. The teacher and principals are always harrassing us. If I don't stand up [[against them|yesmoral]], then how can I say I am for the students.
How is he going to doubt my loyalty? There are more than two choices. We can probably find some [[middle ground|nomoral]] with the aministration.
"They are gonna have us on lock, no cap. I'm glad you agree because I was going to doubt your loyalty. I mean either you are with the students or you with the them, bruh," he points at the teacher helping a student on the other side of the room.

<<set $hasty to 1>>If you are not with us, then you are basically a Nazi, or at least a sympathizer. How are you gonna let them take our rights away and lock us up in school?
<h1>You Choose</h1>
Whoah, Nazis? This may be going too far. I get that the teachers are trippin', but that is [[nothing like|noherring]] genocide. How can he call his best friend a Nazi?
Man, if [[he is right|yesherring]], this could lead to a serious lockdown. We wouldn't have any rights. If we can't access information, then they can do whatever they want to us. I'm glad you decided to side with us. This is like the Nazis or Communist China. First they take our phones, then what? This is exactly like book burning man. They can't keep us from the truth.

"Bruh, be quiet," you hiss. The [[teacher's right|nohome]], we ain't getting our work done, and I need to pass.
[[You agree|yeshome]] with your friend though silently because you don't want to get written up. Why is this teacher always picking on you?Yeah, you get it. These fascist are trying to stifle us.
At this moment the teacher comes over and tells you both to be quiet and get to work.

<<set $herring to 1>>After you tell you parents about what happened today, they decide to break it down over your meal of Hamburger Helper and canned green beans.
"So your friend was full of it today. Let's start with his first point that everyon is doing it.<<if $populum is 1>> Wow, this is a classic. You know how when you want to go to a party because everyone will be there, and we say, 'if everyone was going to jump off a building, should we let you?' This is an ad populum or bandwagon argument. Just because everyone agrees, doesn't make it right. I can't believe you fell for it.<<else>>I'm glad you have enough sense not to go along with the crowd. When he told you everyone was doing it, that is a classic ad populum or bandwagon appeal."<</if>>
"Even if it was true that everyone was in agreement,<<if $hasty is 1>>Your friend jumped to a conclusion there and you jumped right with him. This is a hasty generalization. He concludes that because he can't watch a few reels that his mind is being controlled. There is no evidence that this is the true cause of action. <<else>>I'm glad you have more sense than to make that leap in logic like that. You definitely need to find some evidence before coming to that conclusion."<</if>>
"If we put aside his hasty generalization, we still have to deal with his either/or reasoning.<<if $either is 1>>You should know better than this. The world is not black or white, good or evil, right or wrong, yes or no. You should always be suspicious when anyone only offers two options. This is an either/or sometimes called a false dichotomy. <<else>>We must have raised you right because you know that there is almost always room for negotation. The world can't be boiled down to an either/or situation. Your friend was giving you a false dichotomy."<</if>>
"His lack of logic is starting to worry me. It is dangerous to make moral equivalencies like he did.<<if $moral is 1>>Somebody has been spending too much time on the Internet. Everytime anyone does anything political, they are called a Nazi. I can guarantee that almost nothing is the moral equivalent of a Nazi.<<else>>At least you have enough sense to know that this stuff about phones is not the moral equivalent of Nazis. Your teachers want you to learn. Nazis wanted to exterminate all Jews. NOT THE SAME!"<</if>>
"I mean he will use a logical fallacy at every turn. When your teacher tried to get you back on track, he immediately through out a red herring.<<if $herring is 1>>What the heck does what the other students are doing have to do with your behavior. Even if someone else was driving 90 in a 70 it doesn't mean you weren't speeding just because you were only going 85. Your are just trying to distract from your guilt by thowing out a red herring.<<else>>I'm glad you got the sense to know when you are wrong. There is hope for you yet."<</if>>
